BIOGRAPHY
Before "Apollonia" was born, there was a young woman by the name of Patricia Kotero. From an early age, she was headed for stardom. She was a Los Angeles Rams Cheerleader, and the former Miss San Pedro. Her beauty was taking her places, but who knew she had the amazing musical and acting talent that she did? Apparently Jaime Fernández did, because he cast her in the Mexican film, "La Mafia de la frontera" in 1979. After that, she did a few other movies, such as "Amor ciego", "Heartbreaker", and "The Mystic Warrior". However, it wasn't until she was cast in Prince's first film, PurpleRain, that she hit it big. Prince's protege, Vanity, decided to leave her girl group, "Vanity6" for a chance at a solo career. Since Vanity6 was supposed to be featured in the movie, there had to be someone to fill her shoes. Patty was perfect for the role. Aside from looking remarkably like Vanity, she had the singing and acting abilities that were required. The only problem left was the name; she needed a stage name that would stick out in people's minds. So long Patricia, hello Apollonia! Apollonia was an over-night star from that point on. She took over Prince's girl group, with the new name of Apollonia6. They released a self-titled album under Warner, and their hit single, "Sex Shooter", rose to the top in many countries, doing especially well in Mexico. Apollonia6 tagged along with Prince on his PurpleRain tour, opening for TheRevolution. Unfortunatly, soon after hitting the musical scene, Prince lost interest in them, as he did many other projects. That Blue Limousine pulled out for the last time. After the phenomenon that was PurpleRain, Apollonia decided to further her acting and modeling career. She was the 1984 Miss May/June in the famous Rigid Tool Company calendar. In 1985, she landed herself a role on the popular soap opera, "Falcon Crest" from '85-'86. Although her days with Prince were over, she decided to keep the name "Apollonia", the alias that made her a household name. Aside from designing her own costumes on "Falcon Crest", she partnered up with McCall's, and created a few do-it-yourself patterns! She was featured on the packaging of each of these designs. 1986 dubbed Apollonia a true fashion designer! As 1989 approached, Apollonia decided to rekindle her short-lived music career. Without Susan and Brenda to back her up, she was going to have to fly solo. After signing with Warner, she released a self-titled album, spawning three hit singles: "Since I Fell For You", "Mismatch", and "The Same Dream". Along with her re-founded music, she was cast in a series of movies, some of which were: "Ministry of Vengeance", "Back to Back", "La Donna di una sera", "Black Magic Woman", and "Cattive ragazze". Her career came to a halt after 1992, followed by another blow when she filed for divorce from Kevin Bernhardt in 1996. So what has she been up to lately? In 2003 she took part in the first annual FamilyJamm, accompanied by Prince's other proteges from throughout the years. She's also been spotted at various movie premieres and fashion shows, as well as volunteering at a Thanksgiving feast in L.A. There's talk of cosmetic surgery and breast implants on her part, at which she's never confirmed nor denied. What's next for Apollonia? Music? Movies? Modeling? Fashion designing? Who knows. The world is an oyster and she is it's pearl. Keep your eyes peeled, I'm sure we haven't heard the last of her!
